In the winter of 2003, Sandia BMW vacated its headquarters at 3400 Menaul Boulevard NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The owners of Outwest Hobbies commissioned G. Donald Dudley Architect to renovate the empty 10,000 square feet of garage and automobile sales offices. After an initial feasibility study, the owner’s accepted the plan to create a place that was part fantasy world and part sales area. A great deal of care was taken in choosing the construction palette to create a “building as a kit-of-parts” to mirror the plastic models that are sold inside. |
